Lower Silesian Science Festival<\/h1>\n\n\n

As part of the 2023 Lower Silesian Science Festival (DFN), the Institute of Geological Sciences is delighted to offer a wide array of lectures, workshops, and exhibitions catered to various age groups. We warmly invite everyone to the DFN inauguration on September 16, where attendees will have the chance to experience various facets of a geologist’s work at our geological stand. This includes the opportunity to explore a rich collection of rocks, minerals, and fossils, observe through a microscope, and even engage in the popular activity of \u201cgold panning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the DFN, high school students and adults are invited to participate in workshops introducing them to the formation and identification of minerals, sedimentary, and magmatic rocks. They can also attend lectures covering topics such as how continental drift led to the formation of the Polish bedrock. As part of the Scientists’ Night, curious visitors can engage in workshops where they will utilise high-quality microscopes, with magnification capabilities reaching into the thousands, to marvel at the intricate details of rocks on the nanometer scale. For students in the 7th grade and above, lectures will be offered covering topics such as the giant animals of eras past, as well as tips on how to hunt for meteorites without leaving home.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The DFN will also feature an open day at the Mineralogy Museum, allowing visitors to explore its exhibitions. Younger science enthusiasts, meanwhile, can participate in workshops focused on understanding earthquakes and learning how to identify sedimentary rocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
