Institute

The Institute of Geological Sciences of the University of Wrocław is one of the largest research and teaching institutions of Earth sciences in Poland. Our research is extensive, we use both pure and applied research to investigate the Earth from the surface to the deep mantle. The tradition of geology at the University of Wrocław dates back to 1812.

Studies

The Institute of Geological Sciences offers studies in geology and geological engineering, both undergraduate (bachelor’s studies, engineering studies) and graduate types (master’s studies), as well as postgraduate studies in Geotourism. We are also involved in a number of activities to promote geoscience knowledge and education.

Science

Our researchers address the current problems in the earth sciences by carrying out scientific projects on sustainable mining, water quality, carbon sequestration, biogeochemical cycles, and applied mineralogy and petrology among others. We host a number of scientific laboratories where both researchers and students can work on their projects. We effectively disseminate the results of our scientific projects with over 50 papers published each year in Polish and international journals.

International

We offer master’s studies in English (specialization: Applied Geoscience), as well as international mobility programs for students, PhD candidates, employees of our Institute and people who want to conduct their scientific projects with us. Our Institute is a perfect place for students and researchers from all over the world.

Collaboration

We work collaboratively with local government, scientific and business entities. We offer a wide range of laboratory services related to research on, among others, water, rocks, and soils. We are open to joint ventures in the geological industry.
