Description of activities
The current research focus of the ten-member Laboratory Team, as reflected in their scientific publications over the past year, includes studies on:
– isotope composition of carbon and nitrogen in the organic matter of peat and sediments in the context of climate conditions reconstruction,
– biogas yield and methane fermentation,
– nitrogen transformations in the soil environment, especially denitrification,
– anaerobic decomposition of organic matter, especially focusing on the pathways of various organic acids which are precursors to methanogenesis,
– polymers such as lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose originating from sediments and fossil wood of different ages and maturity stages,
– surface water studies – conducted in collaboration with Polish industry, mainly mining.

Equipment of the Laboratory
Picarro G2201-i CRDS Spectrometer
Equipped with Picarro CM and O I Analytical Aurora with AS 1088. |
Analysis of concentrations and isotopic composition of carbon in CO2and CH4in the atmosphere. |
The CM attachment is used for isotope composition analysis of organic carbon in solid samples of various origins. |
The O I Analytical Aurora attachment with autosampler AS 1088 is for the analysis of concentrations and isotope composition of organic and inorganic carbon in water samples. |
Picarro G5131-i CRDS Spectrometer
Thermo Scientific – 253 MAT Plus Spectrometer Plus
Equipped with DI/GasBench with CTC Pal/ Precon autosampler. |
For isotope measurements of H,C,N, NO, N2O, Ar, Xe in dual inlet and continuous flow systems. |
Possibility of analyzing C and O from carbonates using the GasBench attachment. |
Analysis of DIC from water: With the Precon attachment, it is possible to analyze samples of CH4 and N2O at low concentrations. |
