Description of activities

The laboratory conducts experimental research aimed at reproducing the processes of rock, mineral, and industrial waste weathering. Bio-weathering processes under the influence of microorganisms (e.g., bacteria), organic matter, and root exudates are simulated. The research is applied in developing remediation techniques for contaminated sites, and also contributes to the development of technology for the recovery of elements from secondary resources using biohydrometallurgical methods. The laboratory is fully adapted for controlled bio-weathering simulation (autoclaves, incubators, shakers, HACH spectrophotometer, microbiological centrifuge, Vortex, laminar flow chamber with UV, phytotron chamber).

Laboratory equipment

Autoclave
Autoclave

Sterilization allowing for full sterility of laboratory materials and solutions, which is essential for conducting simulations in sterile conditions.

UV Laminar Flow Cabinet
Cabinet

Conducting experiments under sterile conditions.

Phytotron chamber
Phytotron

Plant cultivation in controlled temperature, light cycle, and humidity conditions.

Shaker
Shaker

Conducting chemical and biological processes with solution mixing.

Spectrophotometer

Spectrophotometer

Analysis of anion and cation concentrations and chemical substances showing absorbance.

Microbial Centrifuge
and Vortex

Centrifuge

Vortex

Preparation of microbiological cultures.

Incubators

Incubator1

Incubator 2

Incubation of microorganisms, conducting chemical and biological processes at controlled temperatures and at a controlled rate of solution mixing, as well as forced air circulation.
